Going to the Cave
Every year, a band of Odd Fellows converge on Yreka to connect with nature and with each other. The group includes old members offering to share the ritual of the four degrees and new members ready to join or to get their degrees. It is a wonderful event for members of the Order to get to know others and to work together.
The highlight of the gathering is the Cave Degree. Outside of Yreka is a cave where members receive the Second Degree. It occurs near dusk. We look out of the cave to the East toward Mount Shasta and watch the full moon rise. It is surreal and inspirational.
For many years, San Pablo lodge has provided a degree team to perform each of the degrees with assistance from other Odd Fellows. Richard Brouse has led the event for years. Whether you are receiving the degrees or a part of the degree teams or simply attending to observe and encourage the other participants, it is truly a tribute to Odd Fellowship.
If you have never attended the Cave Degree, you should do so sometime. This year the Cave Degree weekend is August 5th and 6th. For more information, contact Richard Brouse at email@example.com .
