Odd Fellow Events
On Saturday, September 3, 2016, the Grand Master, Peter Sellars, has set a pilgrimage to visit to the Odd Fellows (California) Monument No. 332, located at Kit Carson Pass.
In 1941, the erection of a large brass memorial plaque to the memory of the pioneers, who carried Odd Fellowship into California, was placed into the side of a large granite boulder.
The monument marks the exact place of where early pioneers, who were also members of the Order, paused to camp, and inscribe their names on several boulders using white lead. There is also a gravesite nearby.
The date of this historic event was August 26, 1849.
It took the Odd Fellows 10 years to get the monument placed at the historic site. In 1931, during the session of the Grand Lodge, a resolution was passed to pursue the monument. In 1941, it became a reality.
Today, the Grand Lodge of California still pays the fee to USDA Forest Service to maintain the monument and the site.
We shall be meeting at 1130am, where snacks and beverages will available to all those who wish to come to this special event. The monument is located 61 miles east of Jackson, off Highway 88, on Red Vista Road. The monument sits about 40 yards off of the road. No charge. This should be a fun excursion. Wear comfortable shoes. Bring a chair.
